My 2022 New Year’s Resolutions

Each year during the month of December, I spend some time thinking about New Year’s resolutions. This isn’t a concentrated process. It’s not a big brainstorming session. Rather, it’s a slow process for me to consider what I’d like to achieve over the next year. And you know what? It works for me.

I know that resolutions are often seen as a joke. They’re short-lived goals like “eat better” or “lose weight” that people create during the month of January and all but forget about by February or March. They cause people to pack local gyms for two short weeks after the ball drops, but they (more often than not) don’t keep them coming back for the entire year.

That said, while resolutions are far from a perfect mechanism, I’ve found that creating a list throughout the last month of the previous year of hyper-specific goals has helped me to focus my intentions for the new year. Do I achieve everything? Absolutely not. Do I achieve some? Yes, every single year. And I also leave that year feeling accomplished because those were goals that I really wanted to make happen.

When you write you goal down, you are 42 percent more likely to achieve it. So, here’s to 2022, and the goals I’m looking forward to working toward this coming year.

Professional

  1. Create an online course
  2. Build an online portfolio for my website
  3. Post content on LinkedIn
  4. Get response rate down to 4 hours on Fiverr

Personal

  1. Check out books from Waialua Library
  2. Take surf lessons (gift from Jake)
  3. Read 10 books this year
  4. Learn how to do dip powder nails (try at least 10 times)
  5. Floss daily
  6. Watch The Sopranos and Seinfeld

Final Thoughts

These are 10 goals of varying size. Some are big, some are small. Some are personal, some are professional. Some may happen, some may not…that flossing one has proven particularly difficult for me to keep in the past. However, I feel good that making these 10 New Year’s resolutions can help guide my year positively, even if I don’t achieve everything on the list.

I also have some big travel goals coming up this year that I purposefully left off the list because of the uncertainty with the pandemic. Fingers crossed, I’ll be able to return to travel during the summer of 2022…time will tell. For now, you can read about the travels I’ve done in my other travel blogs
